Klek

Klek ,a little Adriatic sea town ,situated in splendid cove by the road between Split and Dubrovnik. This history landed area used to belong to the famous republic of Dubrovnik. Nowadays, it has some 200 inhabitants who live off fruit, vegetables, olive growing, as well as fishing and tourism. Surrounded by centennial olive trees, oleanders and other Mediterranean plants Klek is ideal for a quiet and pleasant vacation. Apart from bathing and water sports, visitors may enjoy other recreational activities at four tennis courts and miniature golf facilities. In the vicinity are also the villages of Duboka, Repić, Radalj and Komarna with beautiful beaches.

Klek is located on the main road (M2, E65),on the magnificent Dalmatian coast: 80 km from Makarska and from Dubrovnik, and 50 km from Medrugorje. The cities of Neum, Opuzen and Metkovic are close by. Further away is Dubrovnik and Mostar, and even Sarajevo and Split may be reached in a day-trip.In the past, the Turkish army made the Klek harbour a fortress. The quadrangular Nonkovic tower with a chapel and the remains of a wall from the 17th-18th century has been preserved in Klek. Above the village are the ruins of the ancient town of Smrden-grad , a baroque chapel and the medieval tombstones; close to it is a large necropolis of stele.
